Guernsey's young cricketers suffered defeat to Jersey by 153 runs at the ICC European Under-19 event held in Belfast on Sunday. Jersey were put into bat by Guernsey and were all out for 229 in the final over of the innings. In reply, Guernsey were all out for 76, with only Zac Damarell and Robbie Le Corre reaching double figures. Guernsey manager David Hearse said: "It's fair to say they're struggling, I don't think they're playing to form." It was the third win in a row for the Jersey cricketers, but the third defeat for the Guernsey side. | The young lads who've come in are trying their best Guernsey manager David Hearse |
In their other matches, Jersey beat Denmark by eight runs and the Netherlands by one run. While Guernsey lost to the Netherlands by 111 runs and to Ireland by seven wickets. Hearse added: "We have suffered with players making themselves unavailable for one reason or another. "That's taken a degree of quality out of the squad, it's been difficult to replace it. "The young lads who've come in are trying their best, but they're playing up two years up in an age group and three years in some cases, so it's a difficult hill to climb."
