Scarborough lose on the last ball

Darren Harland is enjoying his best season as Scarborough skipper

Scarborough's Yorkshire Premier League title hopes suffered a severe blow as the third-placed side lost to second-placed Yorkshire Academy by five runs.

Chasing the Academy's 196, Adam Lyth made 85 but Scarborough were dismissed off the final ball, so the Academy took eight points to gain on leaders York.

Scarborough skipper Darren Harland told BBC York: "We were in the hunt but just fell short in the end."

York top the table by three points after winning at Sheffield United.

York posted 244-5, with Duncan Snell making 117. Dan Wilson still needs 43 runs to set a new league record for most runs in a season after he was dismissed for 10.

Ashley Hulme made a worthwhile return trip from work duty in Holland to make 39 and take three wickets as United ended on 175-9.

York had around seven overs to take the last wicket but could not, so they only took six points from the game.

Harrogate lost to Rotherham by 29 runs at St George's Road after the South Yorkshire side posted 216. Alex Welsh scored 103 while Harrogate's Dan Craven took 6-53.

In reply Harrogate skipper John Proud made 55 and Dominic Sharp 42, but they were all out for 187.

Harrogate were in with a chance for much of their innings but Proud said: "We just kept losing a wicket and the pressure mounted and we fell short in the end."
