John Proud is in his second spell as skipper of Harrogate |
Harrogate won at Doncaster by eight wickets on Saturday to move off the bottom of the Yorkshire Premier League. A three-hour delay to let the pitch dry meant the match was restricted to 25 overs a side. Doncaster made 106-6, and Harrogate replied with 109-2. Harrogate skipper John Proud, who made 51 not out, told BBC Radio York: "We'd lost twice on the trot so we're really pleased with the win. "The core of the side are young players and they're only going to get better." The six-point win lifted Harrogate two points above Hull at the foot of the table. | It sounds a bit odd for a team at the bottom to say, but I think the Yorkshire League [suffers from] lacking relegation. Just 13 points separate the bottom seven clubs, but Proud is concerned there is too little motivation for struggling clubs who have no hope of catching the teams at the top but no fear of relegation either. "It sounds a bit odd for a team at the bottom to say, but I think the Yorkshire League [suffers from] lacking relegation. "There's sometimes a lack of competitiveness at the bottom, so we've set ourselves a target of really pushing hard to get into to the top half. "We're going to try our very best and in that respect Appleby Frodingham [next week] is quite a big game to try to climb a few places." At the top, Yorkshire Academy beat both the weather and Driffield to move level with leaders Scarborough, whose game at Barnsley was washed out. York are third, three points behind, after both their games were washed out. They managed to face two balls in Sunday's game at Doncaster, reaching 3-0, before the rain came.
