Champions York beat Yorkshire Premier League leaders Scarborough by 100 runs to go above them in the table.

Opener Duncan Snell made 118 as York posted 285-7, Simon Tennant taking 4-84, before Scarborough were dismissed for 185, with Piet Rinke making 72.

York's other opener Dan Wilson told BBC York: "It's a big win for us, they were two or three points ahead of us.

"Dunc batted really well. He deserved his hundred and he's just a pleasure to bat with."

Wilson was still smarting from a heavy defeat at North Marine Road earlier in the season, in which Yorkshire batting prodigy Adam Lyth hit Scarborough to victory.

"The last time we played Scarborough they ran through us quite easily and bowled us out for 120, so we knew it was really important (to get through) the new ball," said Wilson.

"We got through that period and from there we just built a good score."

Unluckily for Scarborough, Lyth was not available this time as he was travelling down to Taunton to join the Yorkshire squad for Sunday's Pro40 game.

"We haven't won the league with this result but we could have just about put ourselves out of it had we got beaten," Wilson added.

"It was a huge result for us, it gives us a chance to stay in touch."

The Yorkshire Academy won their game to go top of the table, with York second and Scarborough third.

Harrogate's woes continued with an eight-wicket home defeat by Sheffield United.

John Proud and Richard Rawlings both made 30 as Harrogate were dismissed for 107. United reached 109-2 in 22.5 overs.
