Harland's Scarborough are three points clear at the top of the league |
Scarborough won at Hull by eight wickets to go top of the Yorkshire Premier League while all their rivals lost their matches to the bad weather. Scarborough dismissed Hull for 83 in 35 overs and then knocked off the runs in double-quick time to beat the rain. Skipper Darren Harland told BBC York: "As soon as we finished, the rain came straight away so it was perfect timing. "We didn't take tea, we asked if we could play on a bit. We finished about half-past-three and the rain came." So Scarborough picked up the full eight points while all their rivals, notably Yorkshire Academy and York, picked only three points for no-results, but Harland feels no guilt about that. | We're not going to get fazed or anything, we're just going to go out there and give it our best shot |
"Being on the coast we tend to come off worse, we've had three or four games abandoned already whereas the other teams have only had one or two, so lady luck's turned our way." With the rain arriving from the west, the four matches in the west of the county never started, but both York and Harrogate had a slight chance at more easterly venues. York reached 172-5 in just 29 overs at Scunthorpe-based Appleby Frodingham, with Dan Wilson scoring 64 to move closer to the League record, but then the rains came. Bottom club Harrogate will feel let down by the elements after piling up 261-6 at Driffield. The hosts collapsed to 19-2 before the rain ruined Harrogate's chance of a fifth win of the season. Scarborough now lead the Academy by three points at the top, but Harland is keeping cool about the prospects of taking the title. "All the boys are just concentrating on their own game," he added. "We're not going to get fazed or anything, we're just going to go out there and give it our best shot. "It's nice to be up there, we're in the League Cup as well, and we've a big game next week at York plus Cleethorpes on the Sunday, so it's a big stage of the season."
