Jersey finished fourth in the event |
Jersey finished the ICC Under-19 European Cricket World Cup qualifier on a high when they beat Denmark by 59 runs at College Field on Sunday. Jersey batting first made 138 all out from 40 overs, opener John Borg batted through the innings to be last out, top-scoring with 49. In reply, Denmark had no answer to the Jersey bowling attack, all out for 79. Jersey coach Craig Hogan told BBC Radio Jersey: "The result showed we are a better side, that's fair." He continued: "We batted poorly, but one thing the boys did is grind it out. | I think we weren't that far away from the top three sides and I am proud that the boys put it to them |
"The boys bowled and fielded great; they have all week." Jersey finished fourth in their first time in the Division One tournament, something Hogan was pleased with. "I think we weren't that far away from the top three sides [Ireland, Scotland and The Netherlands] and I am proud that the boys put it to them." The was more good news for Jersey cricket, the Under-15s winning their first match in the ICC Under-15 European Cricket Division One tournament in Dundee, Scotland. Playing one of the favourites Ireland, Jersey batted first making 151 for six from their 45 overs, Luke Gallichan top scoring with 44 not out. In reply, Jersey bowled the Irish out for 83. Jersey cricket development officer Chris Minty, who is coaching the team, was delighted. "It's a brilliant result, Ireland are one of the top Division One sides, to beat them on the day the under-19s beat Denmark is a great day for Jersey cricket," he said. Jersey face reigning champions Scotland on Monday.
