Island Petanque Singles Trophy finalists Pinel (left) and Northern

Matthew Pinel claimed the 2009 Magic Touch Island Petanque Singles Trophy at the Weighbridge Terrains on Saturday.

In pouring rain the 16-year-old was the best of the 24 competitors taking part and reclaimed the title he previously won in 2007.

Pinel convincingly defeated his father Keith 13-6 on his way through to the final, where he faced singles debutant Toby Northern.

But Pinel's great form continued as he claimed his second singles title.
