Sussex chief executive Dave Brooks praised the new indoor cricket centre

Sussex County Cricket Club's second XI and academy players visited Guernsey to play two 50-over friendly matches on Friday and Saturday.

Strong links have been forged between the club and island in recent years.

The Sussex XI played a Guernsey Development XI at Port Soif on Friday and the Guernsey Senior XI on Saturday.

Sussex chief executive Dave Brooks praised the new indoor centre and said: "We believe we can help improve the quality of Guernsey cricket."

"There's great participation levels amongst the youngsters," said Brooks.

"With the inspiration of professional cricketers coming over, we believe we can help develop first-class cricketers out of Guernsey and maybe one day they'll play for Sussex."

Brooks was impressed by the indoor centre which opened in March: "Any of the 18 first-class counties in England would be delighted to have a facility as good as this."
