Pennie failed to advance beyond the qualifying round at the 2008 Olympics

Britain's Fiona Pennie won silver in the women's K1 final at the first event of the canoe slalom World Cup series in the Czech capital Prague.

Pennie, a 2008 Olympian, picked up one two-second penalty to clock 109.16 seconds - 0.11secs slower than winner Jasmin Schornberg of Germany.

"Unfortunately, I took a touch on gate 19, but I was very fast on the rest of the course," said 27-year-old Pennie.

Team-mate Laura Blakeman produced a personal-best fourth place.

The other Britons competing in K1, Louise Donington and Lizzie Neave, did not make the final after placing 12th and 30th respectively in qualifying.

Meanwhile, Britain's 2004 Olympic silver medallist Campbell Walsh finished 10th in the men's K1 final, with Huw Swetnam and Richard Hounslow 17th and 24th respectively.

On Saturday, Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott finished ninth in the men's C2 final.

David Florence and Richard Hounslow failed to progress past the semi-finals in that class, while Dan Goddard and Colin Radmore could not emerge from the heats.

There was more disappointment for World Cup champion Florence when he missed out on a place in the final of the men's C1 after being hit with a 50-second penalty for missing a gate to place 28th.

His C1 team-mates, Mark Proctor and Gregg Pitt, also missed out on final berths after coming 14th and 25th respectively, while 16-year-old Mallory Franklin was eighth in the women's C1 class.

The World Cup Series continues in La Seu d'Urgell in Spain's Pyrenees from 26-27 June before concluding the following weekend in Augsburg, Germany.
