Great Britain kayakers Liam Heath and Jonathan Schofield won gold on day one of the Sprint World Cup in Germany.

The pair, who triumphed in Hungary last month, pipped the Belarus team of Raman Piatrushenka and Vadzim Makhneu in the men's 200m K2 event in Duisburg.

In the men's K1 200m, Ed McKeever won bronze behind German duo Ronald Rauhe and Jonas Ems.

And in the women's K1 event, Rachel Cawthorn also won bronze behind German winner Nicole Reinhardt.

Tim Brabants, who has recently returned to the sport after winning two golds in the Beijing Olympics, will compete in the men's K1 1,000m race on Saturday and the 500m event a day later.

The 33-year-old finished seventh in Hungary in his first major final for two years.
