Cawthorn will go for a third medal on Sunday

Britain's Rachel Cawthorn won gold in the women's K1 1,000m at the final World Cup kayaking event in Germany.

Cawthorn, 21, won bronze in Friday's K1 200m and will go for a third medal in Sunday's 500m event in Duisburg.

She said: "I had a good start, got caught and then accelerated at the 500m mark. I just focused on thinking about going quickly and not the competition."

Louisa Sawers and Jessica Walker won bronze in the K2 1,000m to add to the two medals Britain won on Friday.

Double Olympic champion Tim Brabants, competing in only his second event since returning to the sport after a break, finished fourth in the K1 1,000m.

That was three places better than the seventh place he secured in in last weekend's meeting in Hungary.

Paul Wycherley finished just behind Brabants in sixth place.

Jon Boyton and Ed Rutherford came eighth in the men's K2 1,000m and Hayleigh Mason, Abigail Edmonds, Jenna Hawkey and Angela Hannah came fifth in the women's K4 500m.

Britain will seek further medals in the 500m races on the final day of competition on Sunday.
