 More than 2,000 people went to the island's first open-air boxing night
Guernsey boxers defeated an England Select side 9-6 in a special open-air event on Saturday. More than 2,000 fans turned out to the Track, the home of Belgrave Wanderers Football Club, in St Sampson for the event. Guernsey bantamweight Bradley Watson defeated Courtney Chadwick in the top-of-the-bill clash. Watson won by a unanimous points decision in his last amateur fight before turning professional. "I wore him down round by round and took him out. Graham [Guilbert, coach] kept telling me you're doing the right thing, you're doing the right thing and when he tells me that I know I'm doing the right thing," he said. "My dad got me into the sport nine years ago and since then I haven't looked back." Guilbert said the event was "a huge success for Guernsey boxing". He continued: "There's some superb bouts with Guernsey boxers against a hard England team, we've held our own and won the night." In the fight of the night super-heavyweight Alan Myers defeated James Burns of England. Other victories for Guernsey came from Callum Pearson, James Woolnough, Tom Duff, Gage Demore, Saul Woodruff, Tom Maunder and Jack Gilvear.
