 Taggart is currently leading the English Fell Running Championships
Lloyd Taggart took a commanding victory in the Snaefell fell race on Saturday, setting his third race record in as many outings. Taggart finished almost four minutes ahead of Simon Skillicorn and one minute 49 seconds inside Tony Rowley's 1987 record. The 41-year-old said: "It's great to set records and hopefully I can carry my form into the British Champs." The five-mile course included almost 2,000ft of ascent. Taggart is now aiming for a top-five finish in the opening round of the British Championships at Mourne Peaks in Northern Ireland. "It will be very competitve but I feel in good shape and I'm definitelty up for the challenge," he said. Meanwhile, Simon Skillicorn edged a prolonged battle with Nigel Armstrong by just 15 seconds. Stafford Harriers' Kate Burge won the women's race and was ninth overall with Sarah Curphey second and Rose Hooton wrapping up the top three. The Snaefell event saw another record entry as the sports continues its recent resurgence. The next race of the season will be the Manx Mountain Marathon and Half Mountain Marathon held on Easter Saturday. Full results from the Snaefell race
