Emma Harris has been selected to represent England at the Scottish Under-16 open strokeplay championship at Strathmore from the 14-16 April.

The 15-year-old from Crosby will be part of a six-strong English team looking to retain the Nations Cup.

Harris told BBC Sport: "When I opened the letter I was just so happy to be selected for the squad."

The precocious talent won her first senior Isle of Man women's title aged just 12.

She has gone on to win the title for the past three years.

The Isle of Man Sports Aid recipient plays off a handicap of two and has had a terrific 12 months on the fairways, where she has won the Northern girls' and North of England Under-16 championships as well as finishing third in the English Girls Championship.

It is the Peel player's first England call-up and she hopes it will be the first of many: "I'm just so delighted to be playing in the team and I will give it 100%."

The English Women's Golf Association's national training manager Claire Lingwood added: "Emma has been involved in our training squads for the past two years and this is her first time representing the England Championship squad.

"The team will travel with a national coach and gain first hand experience of course planning, detailed preparation and the experience will no doubt benefit her overall game.

"She is a terrific talent."

The six girls will all play as individuals but their collective scores will count towards the Nations Cup.

The Peel player joins Georgia Hall (Remedy Oak), Kyra Horlock (Broadstone), Bronte Law (Bramhall), Amber Ratcliffe (Royal Cromer) and Olivia Winning (Rotherham) in the team.
