Steve Partington strode to victory in the 50th running of the Empire Garage Peel to Douglas Race Walk in brisk conditions on Sunday.

Partington finished the 10-mile walk in one hour 21:59 minutes to record his 14th victory in the event.

The 45-year-old told BBC Isle of Man: "I just got my head down and didn't look back, I'm glad it went my way."

Michael George finished three minutes behind his Manx Harriers team-mate with Kevin Walmsley third.

"I competed for the first time 28 years ago and I thought I should give it a go in the 50th year. I dusted off the trainers and it was great to win," added Partington.

"Special thanks should go to the organisers and marshals who did amazingly well to stage the race in the conditions."

Current parish walk ladies champion Sue Moore won the women's race, finishing 10th overall.

Judith Quane was two minutes down in second with Janice Quirk third.
