 Sarah Astin was the best placed of the the Manx athletes on Merseyside |
Seven athletes from the Manx Harriers Club competed at the opening round of the McCain UK Cross Challenge Series held in Liverpool on Saturday. Sarah Astin was the highest placed Manx runner with a seventh-placed finish in the Under-17 girls race. Astin finished just 43 seconds behind winner Alice Wright from Worcester Athletics Club. Younger sister Katie finished 13th in the U13 race and older sister Gemma placed 29th in the junior girls race. Meanwhile, The winner of the opening two rounds of the Manx Cross Country League, Kevin Loundes finished 81st in the senior men's race with Gianni Epifani 162nd. Oliver Lockley finished 50th in the U17 boys race and Conor Davies placed 67th in the U13 event. Both were making their debuts at the level. The four-race series gives athletes the opportunity to gain qualification marks for the forthcoming European and World Cross Country Championships. To view the full results, click here .
