Plater won his TT titles riding for the Lincolnshire-based HM Plant Honda |
Former Isle of Man TT winner Steve Plater has announced that he is retiring from road racing. Plater, who has two Isle of Man TT titles, will ride next year in the World Endurance Championships. The 39-year-old will also take on a managerial role as part of the new Honda Legends team based at Louth. Plater told BBC Lincolnshire "Obviously it is a very hard decision as I am very passionate about racing on the Isle of man and the North West 200." He added: "I am a very competitive person and I wouldn't want to drop down the result sheets and then decide to stop racing on the road circuits." Earlier this year Plater broke a bone in his neck crashing during practice for the North West 200.
