Seven runners from the Manx Harriers Athletics Club will compete in the opening round of the McCain UK Cross Challenge Series at Sefton Park, Liverpool on Saturday. The four-race series gives athletes the opportunity to gain qualification marks for the forthcoming European and World Cross Country Championships. "The race will be a good benchmark for our athletes to work off for the year ahead," said Harriers' Andy Fox. The winners of the opening two rounds of the Manx Cross Country League, Kevin Loundes and Gianni Epifani, will enter the senior men's race. Meanwhile, Gemma Astin will go in the junior girls race, which is run at the same time as the senior women's event. Sarah Astin and Oliver Lockley will go in the under-17s race and Katie Astin and Conor Davies in the under-13s. Both Lockley and Davies will be competing in the event for the first time.
