Druce competed despite picking up a hamstring injury |
The Channel Island Athletics Club is celebrating victory after the 10 in 100 Cup held at Copthall on Saturday. The event requires clubs to field 10 athletes who then compete in 10 sports over a 100-minute period. Dale Garland won the 400m, Jason Fox took first in the high jump and David Martin won the long jump. Manager Andrew Whinnie said: "We're winning trophies against the big boys so obviously our standard in the islands has improved dramatically." But Whinnie said the victory was only confirmed following a close finish in the relay. "Coming into the last leg we were second, which was comfortable. But that wasn't enough for Dale (Garland) who overtook the guy just before the line to finish the match five points clear." The team also secured three second places, with Peter Irving in the 400m Hurdles and Liam Duco in the shot and discus. Guernsey Island Games star Tom Druce finished fourth in the 800m, despite picking up a hamstring injury only days before the race.
