A strong end to the season with Wasps ensured Dallaglio made the England squad for the 2007 World Cup, but a poor performance in the lacklustre win over the USA cost him his place in the starting XV. He was left out altogether for the 36-0 thrashing by South Africa but found himself back on the bench for the rest of the tournament as England came back from the dead to drag themselves into the final.
