Dallaglio regained his best form as England finally began to shake off their inferiority complex against the southern hemisphere giants, with wins over South Africa and Australia in 2000 and 2001 proving they could mix it with the best. They were not always able to translate their obvious talent into tangible success though as a string of Grand Slams went begging with defeats in key matches. And on a personal note for Dallaglio, there was more misery on the international scene after he was ruled out of the Lions' Tests against Australia with a serious injury early in the tour.
