After Martin Johnson decided to call it a day, Dallaglio got a chance at redemption as he regained the captaincy for the 2004 Six Nations and summer tour of the southern hemisphere. It was not a glorious lap of honour though, as an England side shorn of many experienced players struggled to live up to their status. Dallaglio decided to end his England career and called a news conference at Twickenham where he received a warm tribute from England coach Clive Woodward.
