Dallaglio's performances on the Sevens circuit and with club side Wasps saw him quickly identified as one of the rising stars of the English game.

The youngster was surprisingly selected for England's tour to South Africa in 1994, and although coach Jack Rowell decided not to risk him in the Test series, the back-rower did see action in the midweek games - including this 19-16 defeat by South Africa A.

Dallaglio had to wait another year for his first taste of Test rugby, coming on as a replacement for Tim Rodber in the 14-24 defeat by the Springboks at Twickenham in November 1995.
