Hunter sets up White clash
Jimmy White
Hunter will face Jimmy White in Sunday's final
Paul Hunter booked his place in the final of the Players Championship in Glasgow with a straightforward 6-2 victory over Ken Doherty.

Hunter denied the Irishman his first final of the season.

The Leeds professional now meets Jimmy White, who won the last three frames to edge out Peter Ebdon 6-5.

Hunter, who will be chasing two trophies and a total of 132,500 said: "It really will be a dream to play Jimmy in a ranking event final."

Hunter added: "I always wanted him to win when I was growing up and he is still my hero."

Hunter is the only player who can deny O'Sullivan the inaugural LG Electronics Tour Order of Merit title.

But he must deny the Whirlwind his first ranking title since 1992 if he is to succeed.

It would've taken a lot out of me if I'd lost, but I'm buzzing
Jimmy White

White took more than four hours to prevent the in-form Ebdon reaching his second successive final.

Ebdon led 5-3 but could not finish the job, allowing White to force a decider in which he doubled the final green and cleared to pink to clinch the victory.

"It would've taken a lot out of me if I'd lost, but I'm buzzing," said White.

"My top 16 ranking was my priority when I came here. The way things are going I'll probably be number one if I win the world championship."
