McManus must be one of the unluckiest men in snooker. The Glaswegian has reached the semi-final stages of nearly 40 tournaments, but has only won two ranking events during a 13-year professional career.
His two victories came in 1994 and 1996, when he picked up the Dubai Duty Free Classic and the Thailand Open.
However, his greatest moment was the 9-8 win over Stephen Hendry in the 1994 Benson and Hedges Masters final.
The victory was all the more impressive because it came at a time when Hendry was considered virtually unbeatable.
The year before, McManus had lost to his compatriot in the last four of the World Championships, the second successive year he had made the semis.
However, in the subsequent decade he has failed to match those achievements, his best being seven second round appearances.
Despite the recent dip in his form, McManus showed flashes of his former self in reaching the final of the 2002 LG Cup earlier this season.
