Kenny Perry
Age: 47
Caps: 1 (2004)
Ryder Cup record: W0 L2 H0
Perry, the oldest man in the US team, is one of the hottest players on the PGA Tour this year with three victories.
He has played on two Presidents Cup teams and built his entire 2008 season around making the Ryder Cup side in his native Kentucky.
He can be sure to count on local support, being from Elizabethtown, less than 50 miles from Valhalla.
And the course is the one on which he came closest to winning a major, losing a play-off to Mark Brooks for the 1996 USPGA Championship.
The veteran will be hoping to make amends for his Ryder Cup appearance at Oakland Hills four years ago, when he played two and lost two.
And if that is not motivation enough, the criticism he took from this side of the Atlantic for missing the Open in order to play a tournament in Milwaukee should spur him on even more.
