Perry is set to be part of the US Ryder Cup team in September |
American Kenny Perry claimed his second title of the year thanks to a final-hole bogey by Woody Austin at the Buick Open in Michigan. Perry finished with a final round of 66 for a 19-under total but Austin had two bogeys in his final two holes to see his hopes of victory disappear. He missed an 18-foot par putt at the 18th to force a play-off. Bubba Watson also had a chance to make the play-off but he left a 12-foot putt just inches from the hole. Austin had moved into contention with birdies at 12, 13, 14 and 16 but he finished with a four-under 68 to share second with Watson. Perry also struggled on the back nine with a bogey, eagle, bogey, birdie run from the 13th but held on for a one-shot victory and his second Buick Open title to move him a step closer to qualifying for the US Ryder Cup team. | 606: DEBATE |
"I still can't believe I won. I feel like I need to go make a birdie out there to go win this tournament," Perry said. "I had multiple wins in '03, '05 and '08. My forties have been pretty good for me." Third-round leader Daniel Chopra finished with a final round of 75 to finish on 13-under in a tie for 17th place.
