Martina Navratilova dominated women's tennis in the 1980s in singles and, with Pam Shriver, in doubles. Navratilova first retired in 1996 but she returned to the WTA Tour to play doubles in 2000 and, at the age of 46, won the Australian Open and Wimbledon mixed doubles with Leander Paes - making her the oldest ever Grand Slam champion. Her Australian triumph completed a 'boxed set' of singles, doubles and mixed doubles at every Grand Slam. She won the US Open in 2006 with Bob Bryan before finally calling time on her career a month before her 50th birthday. The BBC is not responsible for the content of external internet sites |
