1983/84 - Rangers 3-2 Celtic (aet)
Ally McCoist scores cup final hat-trick.
Now assistant manager at Ibrox, one of Ally McCoist's finest moments in a Rangers jersey was in the League Cup final on 25 March 1984.
Smarting from the 2-1 defeat in the previous year's final, Rangers won the match 3-2 after extra-time, with McCoist scoring all three of his team's goals.
A foul by Murdo MacLeod on Bobby Russell lead to Rangers' first penalty, converted by McCoist past Pat Bonner.
Then the Rangers striker got on the end of a Sandy Clark flick-on to rifle a second past the Irishman.
Celtic hauled themselves back into the match when Brian McClair volleyed Tommy Burns' beautifully crafted free-kick beyond Peter McCloy.
Mark Reid slotted home a penalty for Celtic to make it 2-2, after McCoist had fouled MacLeod.
Incredibly, in extra-time, referee Bob Valentine awarded a third penalty, this time for Rangers, a decision that infuriated Roy Aitken.
Bonner parried McCoist's penalty but the Ibrox striker followed up to win the cup for Jock Wallace's Rangers.
