Duleep Trophy, Amritsar: East Zone 283 & 308 beat England A 225 & 273 by 93 runs Pietersen struck just four boundaries in his 94 |
England A suffered their second loss in India's Duleep Trophy competition after a spectacular collapse saw East Zone triumph by 93 runs.
Set 357 to win the tourists were 211-4 at lunch, with Kevin Pietersen only recently dismissed for 94.
But they lost their last four wickets for 22 runs to be bowled out for 273, spinner Saurasish Lahiri taking 5-118.
Matt Prior fell for 46 to begin the collapse, a third victim for Shib Paul, and Kadeer Ali was left 34 not out.
The loss is England A's second of the competition, after a bowling capitulation to West Zone last week.
The tourists seemed to be cruising as Pietersen hit 94 from just 52 balls but he was caught behind off spinner Kiran Powar.
Graham Napier's good start counted for little when he was caught and bowled by Lahiri for 17.
Graham Wagg attempted to halt the tide but his 13 made little difference when Sajid Mahmood, Stephen Kirby and James Tredwell could only muster one run between them.
