Tour match, Bangalore: Karnataka Cricket Association XI 120-2 beat England A 116 by eight wickets Kevin Pietersen gets into an awkward position in Bangalore |
Stuart Binny took 4-29 and two catches as England A suffered an eight-wicket thrashing against a Karnataka Cricket Association XI in Bangalore.
England A were all out for 116 despite 45 from Graeme Wagg and the home side knocked off the runs in 23.3 overs.
Binny, 19, picked up the wickets of Michael Lumb, Ed Smith, Matt Prior and Bilal Shafayat.
The 19-year-old medium pacer is the son of Roger Binny, a member of India's 1983 World Cup-winning team.
England A went into the game without pace bowler Simon Jones, who is suffering from a sore knee, and skipper Alex Gidman.
They lost Kadeer Ali with only one run on the board and the experiment of playing Nottinghamshire's Kevin Pietersen as an opener did not pay off as he was bowled for 17.
Having reached 44-2, they then lost five wickets for 17 runs before Wagg and Sajid Mahmood shared a stand of 35, the highest of the innings.
England needed early wickets and Lancashire seam bowler Mahmood provided them by removing both openers as Karnataka struggled to 36-2. He first bowled Jagadeesh Arunkumar for five with the total on 11 and then had Rowland Barrington caught behind by Prior for 13.
Mahmood completed his 10 overs for figures of 2-45 but spinner Shaftab Khalid's introduction into the attack suited the home batsmen down to the ground.
Khalid conceded 41 in five and a half overs as Mithun Berala (47) and Vijay Bharaburaj (34) saw their side home with an unbroken stand of 84.
