Tour match, Bangalore: India A 324-4 beat England A 269-9 by 55 runs Dinesh Mongia was in awesome form for India A in Bangalore |
England A crashed to a third defeat out of three on their tour of India when beaten by 55 runs by India A.
Dinesh Mongia hit 116 as the home side, batting first, registered a formidable 324-4 in their 50 overs.
Essex's Graham Napier hit 61 in a forlorn pursuit of the target while captain James Tredwell hit 48 not out.
England A's final score of 269-9 was some distance short of the mark, although Napier and Tredwell's 75-run partnership was a positive factor.
It was the third match in succession that England A had to play with neither star fast bowler Simon Jones nor captain Alex Gidman.
Both are suffering with injuries.
Stand-in captain Tredwell won the toss and elected to insert the home side, a decision that was hardly vindicated.
Mongia and Sridharan Sriram (92) put on 209 for the second wicket and Mithun Manhas hit 42 not out.
The five overs shared by all-rounders Bilal Shafayat and Kevin Pietersen were hit for 46.
Sajid Mahmmood claimed the wickets of openers Mongia and Gautam Gambhir but his 10 overs cost 58.
Fellow new-ball bowler Graham Wagg bowled eight overs, taking 1-55, while Graham Napier was wicketless in his 10 overs, costing 55.
Off-spinner Tredwell was as ineffective as anyone with the ball, taking 0-61 in nine overs.
When the tourists batted they slumped to 175-7 before Napier and Tredwell took them to a more respectable score.
There were failures for Pietersen, Michael Lumb and Kadeer Ali in the middle order interspersed with some moderate success for three other batsmen.
Openers Ed Smith (30) and Matt Prior (41) put on 73 for the first wicket while Shafayat hit 28 later on.
Leg-break bowler Sairaj Bahutule took 3-49.
