Three straight defeats have ended Wolves' mini-revival and Rob Edwards needs his men to rediscover their composure.

A five-game unbeaten run sprinkled some positivity on a wretched season, as unity slowly returned to Molineux.

Yet the possibility of setting a record low points total in the Premier League remains, even if talk about the issue has subsided, and Wolves still need points to avoid it.

They still have just eight points, three adrift of Derby County's record of 11 in 2007-08, and first-half displays like Saturday against Chelsea will not help their cause.

Edwards bemoaned the "ludicrous mistakes" which saw Matt Doherty and Yerson Mosquera concede first-half penalties for fouls on Joao Pedro.

The boss admitted to pounding the door in anger following the opening period, with Wolves 3-0 down at the break, but he is likely to be calmer in his pre-match news conference on Tuesday.

This was a press conference where Arne Slot mentioned the "setbacks", "hits" and "bad luck" that his Liverpool side have faced this season.

There have been plenty of reasons, from long-term absentees to late goals to the time it has taken the new signings to adapt to life in the Premier League.

"Even if we sign a player (Jeremy Jacquet) and he's not even playing for us he gets injured," the Liverpool boss said, after Jacquet, who will join for a fee of £60m in the summer, sustained a shoulder injury on the weekend while playing for Rennes.

Yet Slot stressed that the overriding focus should remain on improving their performances, even if at times it feels like he has "tried many different things".

"The question is are we unlucky or is it part of who we are? That is something we can only find out in the upcoming three to four months," Slot stressed.

It didn't feel he was making excuses - rather, Slot was refreshingly honest about the range of challenges his side have faced and admitting their flaws.

There was a little smile when he admitted that this is the toughest season he's ever had in his career. Within that, a glimpse too into how challenging everything has been for him at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Defeat at Sunderland on Wednesday will only amplify the pressure on the Dutchman. Like he said, it would not be acceptable for Liverpool to miss out on the Champions League.

But there was a sense of defiance and belief too within Slot, who still believes his Liverpool can do "special" things this season. If not, then the voices around his future at the club will only grow.

• On whether his Liverpool side had been unlucky to drop so many points after conceding last-minute goals, he said the upcoming three to four months would show whether they had been unlucky "or is that was just part of who we are"

• On team news, Slot said that Joe Gomez was only expected to resume training today following his latest injury and was unsure who would be available to play at right-back, where he has tried "six different players" this season

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola on whether his players can mount a serious title challenge: "We have done really good things. I have had the feeling for many, many months but we are not consistent enough. OK, we controlled many aspects to win the games more or less.

"[Against Liverpool] we equalised the game with a deflected cross from Rayan Cherki, and after some intelligent play then we scored from there, from a deflection.

"The we had an incredible save from Giorgio [Donnarumma]. That is football."

He added: "It will happen if we do what we need to do. I want to deserve the three points. I want us to play the way we have to play to stay there."
