Wenlock Priory - The Topiary After its closure in 1540, Wenlock Priory fell into ruin and much of its stone was removed to build houses, walls and farm buildings. It was only in the 18th and 19th Centuries that people realised the ruins should be preserved and a garden was constructed in the grounds.
The topiary - in what was the Cloister - is a survivor of that garden, while the path leads through to St Michael's Chapel, which was used for the Prior's private worship, and the west end of the Priory Church.
