Wenlock Priory - The Chapter House The Chapter House, built in around 1140, was so named because it was where a chapter of the rule of St Benedict was read out at the monks' daily meetings. The monks sat on stone benches around the edge of the room. Some of the ornate carvings, which would have been picked out in vivid colours, can still be seen on the walls.
