Im Ricky Morgan from Erskine and Im 16 going on 17.
How long have you been skating?
Almost five years Whats with the whole old school thing?
I started learning in Erskine when there was no-one else I knew who was skatin, so I picked up a book in the library and it was from 1983, it was a limited edition magazine called Extension and it was in book form. So I learned from that and I thought that thats how everybody skated until I went to Glasgow city and realised that no-one actually used fishtails and play inter tails were not the norm, so thats how it all started.
But youve stuck with it. Do you like the old school style more?
Yeah, its more expressive and more fun. You can just make stuff up and express yourself rather than having to go out and tray (?) flip just so some guy can look at you.
Is it important for you not to conform?
Not really, Ive just always done it that way and er, Ive just created my own style in a way [laughs]. You how everyone has their own style, well Ive always just, like Dogtown, I dont know if you know the film Dogtown, but at the start of it it was all about pool surfing and Ive always surfed down the street rather than skated.
Could you take us through the make up of your deck?
Yeah, its a new old-school [deck]: its concave, its got two tails, the front ones rounded like your regular new school board and the tail is square so there is actually a tail and a nose. Ive got 159mm trucks which are a lot wider than the norm, Ive got grind rails or grab rails or whatever you want to call them on the edge of the board to stop the board getting ruined in the middle so I could have kept my graphics if Id put them on straight away. They also make it easier to grab.
