 | | | | | | | | | | | Can you introduce yourself? My names Popé, Im 26 and Im a skater from Dundee.
How long have you been skating? Ive been skating for 13 years.
Can you tell us about the scene in Dundee? The scene in Dundee is a really close-knit community. Theres quite a large population of skaters in Dundee but theres a consistent, large group and everybody knows everybody. Dundees basically like the biggest village in the world and everybody knows everybody and everybody skates together and everybody hooks up and goes travelling together. Its all cool.
Has the recent resurgence in skating been a good thing? Well yeah it has, because its brought Perth [skatepark]: the resurgence and high demand for facilities for skaters and BMXers and the likes has brought about new parks. So its all good.
What do you think of all the parks that are sprouting up around Scotland? I think they need to be bigger, more concentrated one-offs in a central position, rather than lots of small, tiny ones because as time goes by, the kidsll grow up and not everybody will be into skating and the small ones that have been built will just go to waste and they get trashed and nobody will use them but if you build big ones like Perth and Livi, that are quite central, then peoplell use them.
So where else in Scotland do you think needs a skatepark?
Theres definitely a need for the central belt to have either an indoor park or an outdoor park in Glasgow and Edinburgh for sure. And the north: Aberdeen needs a park too.
