Quick-fire questions:

Futurama or the Simpsons?
Simpsons.

Star Wars ot Lord of the Rings?
Star Wars.

In American Pie: the ginger girl from Buffy or the topless Czech girl?
[laughs] The Czech girl!

Hip hop or metal?
[sharp intake of breath] Ohh: that’s a good ‘un. Hip hop.

Do you have any opinions on the current state of things in the world?
They [politicians] all suck and should pick up a board and skate [laughs].

Do you have an opinion on big companies like Adidas and Nike making paths into alternative sports?
Ach, that’s just corporations and they’ve got money and they’re looking for the next thing to bandwagon and make money off. I mean, you can’t blame them for trying because they’re a corporation and they need to make money and they will but, [sighs] I don’t mind them putting stuff into skating as long as, for instance, there’s a lot of companies even in the skate world who jump on it and don’t put anything back into skating but I personally don’t like it. I prefer to see the home-grown thing like, for instance 'Local'. Local boards in Glasgow are doing their own thing, their own clothing, **** all the corporations and it’s way cheaper and the quality’s just as good. I like that, I’m really into that just now: doing their own thing.

What do you do for a job?
Well, I’ve just finished my degree, so I’m currently unemployed and looking for work.

What was your degree in?
An honours in business computing.

Was that good?
It was good. I like building websites and project management and that sort of thing so it’s all good. Multimedia.

Could you tell us a little about how you teach kids at the Factory?
Well, I used to teach before, eh? I used to teach some people and I used to get a free session in the Factory if I spent an hour with some kids. Then I stopped it ‘cos I sort of fell out with The Gate [the church that runs The Factory] because I wasnae happy with what they were doin’. But everything’s cool now and I’ve started going back there and skating a lot and then a couple of rich mothers came up to me and were like ‘Here, do you want to teach our kids to skate? We’ll give you so much money per hour.’ I was, like, well I’m not gonnae deny! No, I’m quite happy being unemployed and doing that. It’s some extra cash to pay ma rent [laughs].

Have you got any last words?
Always smile. Don’t get depressed. Speak to people. Have fun. Skate. Get drunk as much as possible. And get an education and stop being stupid.
Cheers Popé.
