 |  |  |  |   |  |  |  |  |  |   | Mark Burrows is a plasterer from Edinburgh with huge hands. He's also a massive part (both physically and metaphorically) of the Scottish skateboarding scene.
We did this interview before Christmas but it quickly became cursed - we could never find a dry day when we were both free to get pics of him skating Livi. However, the other week it finally came.
Mark's an awesome bloke and I'm psyched to have met him. Super psyched, in fact. Super-mega-psyched! I'll shut up now - over to the big man:
Intro: My name's Mark Burrows.
How long have you been skating? I've been skating for 20 years.
How old were you when you started skating? Well, I started off with a wee stick, a tiny, wee stick, when I was about seven. Just kneeling and pushing on my knees and [expletive deleted]. I picked up a real board probably by the time I was ten. Where I come from, Tranent, I used to go to this garage to pump the tyres up on my BMX, and I seen skateboards in the windae, and I jumped in and bought one just after Christmas, and I've never looked back from there, really.
Do you have any good tips for plastering? Always mix the plaster with water before you put it on the wall, have a good labourer by your side every step of the way and use a hawk and trowel, preferably, not your hands.
What's the worst skate fashion that you've ever indulged in? Gotcha ¾ lengths, it has to be. All fluorescent colours. Quality.
What do you go for at the pie shop? Oh, now we're talking! Give me a second or two
Would it be sweet or savoury? It would be savoury, definitely. It would maybe be a corned beef pastie, or
well it depends on what shop I'm in - the shop of choice tends to be Greggs, because there's [exploitive deleted] millions of them now. They do very nice turkey and coleslaw roll-type-things - they're good. But if I go to the Pie Maker, then that's a whole different ballgame, isn't it? Because you can get spicy steak slice-pie-things; [looks whistful for a second] mmmm.
Controversially, I reckon they make better pies in England. Well, I do like a Cornish pastie whenever I'm down in that neck of the woods, definitely.
Tea or coffee? Tea and coffee.
Are you a caffeine fiend? Pretty much a caffeine fiend - trying to cut back, but
How many cups a day? Well, a big mug, for on my way to work in the van, always. That lasts until about 9 o'clock, then I get one at breakfast time, that lasts from about 9.30am till about 10.15am - always hot, keep it hot, 'cos it lasts longer.
Do you have one of those Thermos mugs? I do! In fact, I've got choices of Thermos things, I've got four different ones, and they're very nice.
How do you choose which one to take in the morning? It depends which one's been left in the van from the day before. However, if it's just been sitting by the sink all night, I'll just fill it up again.
