Do you listen to music when skating?
No, because I fall too often and I always break stuff. I don’t wear watches or anything or skate with Walkmans or minidisc or nothin’ ‘cos I always end up smashin’ ‘em and breakin’ ‘em.

If you could listen to just one tune though before you go out to get psyched up, what would it be?

Well, it doesn’t get me psyched up, it just gets me happy and makes me want to skate and not so much concentrating on doing huge stairs or huge handrails but just goin’ out and rollin’, is Louis Armstrong: ‘Wonderful World’. Jjust because it was in Questionable Plan B: Rodney Mullen’s section and it’s just an amazing section.

Which other skaters and riders do you rate in Scotland?
Everybody that picks up a board. Honestly, there’s no ‘who’s better than who’. There are certain people that you just love to watch like for instance Ben Laden and Stu Graham, they’re brilliant to watch. Slobs in Perth: brilliant to watch. There’s just so many good rippers that have got good style and skate fast and they’ve got good tricks and there’s just too many to list.

Do you prefer to watch fast skaters or guys with lots of tricks?
Both. Like, for instance, Ian Anderson fae Dundee: he goes pretty fast and tech but, Ben Laden and Stu, they’re all fast and tech. They’re gnarlers, and Livi breeds gnarlers really. John Anderson too: he’s got good style and he’s definitely opposed to everything and skates everything. No, sorry! He’s not opposed, he’s totally the opposite: I was having a drink with him the other night and he’s totally open to everything and there’s nothing offends him, nothing at all and he doesn’t buy into any of that corporate **** at all. He just skates and I love that.

Is there an obstacle or a trick that you’ve never conquered that plays on your mind?
Yeah, there’s a handrail in Dundee that freaks me right out. I will get round to it before I’m too old. I will one day just get a bottle of Bucky up and then hit that handrail at full pelt and see what happens. Somebody will need to pick up the pieces at the bottom like!

Is a bottle of Bucky what’s required sometimes?
Well, for hittin’ handrails for me, ‘cos I’m **** scared of handrails, yeah.
