 | | | | | | | | | | | Ive only seen you at Unit 23 on Saturdays. Where do you skate during the week?
During the week I skate in the neighbourhood. Just run around the wee curbs and ledges that Ive found. Theres nothing waxed, theres nothing marble, its just all raw, crap concrete basically. But yeah, you skate where you can, thats why theres a lot of street plants and street style hand plants and hand stand to flips out, running up walls and backflippin and that kind of thing.
Who do you skate with?
I skate with Peter Stuart whos one of my friends, [pointing] hes over there with the pink helmet. I guess, I dunno, we met when I was skating up town and we just kind of clicked. We knew each other just as acquaintances rather than friends but hes like a brother now, so its cool. Weve got a little sort of team, I didnt wear the T-shirt today, but its called Hah-Penis Skating.
Do you both have a similar outlook on skating?
Yeah, especially after we saw the film Dogtown and the Z-Boys, that was an eye-opener. That showed that the beginnings of skateboarding is how it still should be, its just raw emotion and being gnarly instead of trying to flip onto a grind or trying to be tech and who cares what you look like? Just have fun.
Do other skaters comment on your style?
Yeah [laughs]. Oldschool! is usually the cry as I pass them or do this! and do that! as Ive made up a lot of tricks and given them bizarre names and people are always like do the wall-crawl!. So yeah, I do get a lot of comments, but its usually, cos its new to a lot of people, like they havent experienced that kind of format of skating and so theyre kind of interested I guess.
When youre pumping a ramp, do you prefer to go for height or tricks?
Faster and higher, yeah!
Who do you admire in the skating world?
Jay Adams, whos one of the Dogtown skaters, Steve Cabillaro I guess because if youve ever seen any of the Bones Brigade videos because that guy can ride a spine like no-one else!
