1 down - 11 to go!!

Back to school with 1 week of the term down - only 11 to go!! Pupils (& staff) seemed half asleep for most of the week as we all readjusted to times of the day that we thought had ceased to exist - ie back to getting up in the dark. At this time of year the sun doesn't rise until about 9am and sets again at 3.30pm. So this means we're also coming home in the blackness.

We also get lots and lots and lots of wind!! Thursday night our ferries stopped running for a few hours. This meant that 1 of our pupils was unable to get to Lerwick on time to catch the boat to Aberdeen. (She caught a plane in the morning)

However, Saturday was a beautiful, still day. In the afternoon, Joy & I went watched seals in the water at Haroldswick, visited Skaw in the far north of the island, and went for a walk along Norwick beach. On our way back to Baltasound, we saw a beautiful moon rising over Haroldswick and stopped to take some photos beside the Skibladner - a replica Viking longship.

Awfully nice photos. My wife and I visited the Shetlands very briefly last May but plan to come back and now would definitely include UNST. Thanks. MJC

Great photos! Do you want to bring your your longship down to our viking festival in August? I'm sure we can sort out accommodation etc.

Slightly further south than you are (I'm at latitude 58, you at 60), but I am actually enthralled by the wintertime. Whether it be the storms, or the fantastic sunrises and sunsets. Second winter here, but still captivated.

Arnish Lighthouse from Stornoway

Who is the muse for these photos? She looks familiar. Skiblaner was a good shot. I feel jealous. Everyone should visit Unst.

Bonjour. I 've been to Shetland a few times and love it ! My pupils exchange with a class in Anderson High school in Lerwick. It's great to read all these news about Unst and see the pictures , I wish I was there.
