Event 13.
Free Thinking Debate: Is The West Losing Its Nerve?

- Saturday 24 October
- 3.15pm - 4.15pm
- The Sage Gateshead, Northern Rock Foundation Hall
The West has been the world's dominant economic and cultural force for nearly 500 years. But with the rise of India and China as economic and cultural powers, and our own industries struggling, are we witnessing its decline? Or is the West just the victim of a loss of self-confidence?
Prominent philosopher and defender of the Enlightenment AC Grayling, international business entrepreneur Paul Callaghan, professor of politics Baroness Haleh Afshar, and classical sculptor Alexander Stoddart take sides.
This event will be broadcast in Radio 3's Night Waves on Thursday 29 October at 9.15pm.
