Event 10.
Landmark: Land of Three Rivers

- Saturday 24 October
- 1.45pm - 2.45pm
- The Sage Gateshead, Northern Rock Foundation Hall
The Tyne, Tees and Wear dissect the North East. They feature in poems, songs and regeneration strategies, and are the focus for local affiliations and regional myth-making. But do the rivers really unite the North East, or are they used to suggest a false unity for a fragmented region?
The poet Sean O'Brien and the Northumbrian poet and historian Katrina Porteous are joined by historian Natasha Vall of Teeside University and Professor David S. Byrne of Durham University to discuss the history of these great rivers and trace the hidden currents that lie beneath the surface. With readings from some of the great works inspired by these stretches of water.
This event will be broadcast in Radio 3's Night Waves on Thursday 19th November at 9.15pm.
