Deep Time: International Festival opens with spectacular display at Edinburgh Castle
8 August 2016
The Edinburgh International Festival opened on Sunday night with a dramatic light show projected onto Edinburgh Castle. The iconic landmark was used as a canvas for animated projections taking in 350 million years of history, accompanied by the music of Glasgow band Mogwai. The free 20 minute performance was watched by over 27,000 people. Immerse yourself in Deep Time with this full-length video. Deep Time was created and produced by 59 Productions, and developed along with academics from Edinburgh University; it includes a tribute to Enlightenment thinker James Hutton, the founding father of modern geology.
