James Shell Saves the Day

Read by Tom Forrister from the BBC Radio Drama Company.

It was a hot summer's day in the city of Paris. James Shell, the most famous secret agent in the animal kingdom was waiting on the top level of the Eiffel Tower for Freddy the Fox his gadget master. Freddy had promised him a new gadget which could change him into an object to blend into his surroundings.

It was exactly four o clock in the afternoon when Freddy appeared. "Ok James" Freddy said, "Your mission is to find out who or what is responsible for the disappearance of pet food from all the pet food stores in Paris."

"Well" said James, "I have my suspicions...I bet that Madame Marshmallow is the culprit. The question is how do I go about proving it?"

Freddy pulled out what looked like an ordinary wristband. "I think you will find that this will help you in your mission" said Freddy. "It's the camouflage 369 convertor, capable of converting you into whatever object might blend into your surroundings. It has a built-in camera and microphone so I can see where you are and what you are up to so that I can easily decide on your best disguise.

James hopped onto his scooter and headed off beside the river Seine towards Madame Marshmallow's sweet shop. When he arrived Madame Marshmallow was busily putting away her trays of sweets. He ducked beneath the window box as Madame Marshmallow closed the shop blinds. James heard Madame Marshmallow take a call on her mobile phone as she left the shop. He quickly pressed the button on his wristband and immediately turned into a dog poo.
"Freddy!!" he whispered crossly. "A dog poo?"

"It's the perfect disguise for the streets of Paris" said Freddy.

Madame Marshmallow locked the front door as she continued her conversation. James heard her say that she was going to have a meeting with Monsieur Dents the dentist in Rue de Chateau at seven o clock that evening.

Just before seven James arrived at the meeting place Madame Marshmallow had discussed. He found himself outside a garage and hid in the shadows. Just after 7pm Madame Marshmallow arrived at the garage and pressed the buzzer. The door lifted slowly.

James pressed the button on his wristband and turned into a leaf which wafted into the garage entrance. He gasped as he saw row upon row of bags of pet food. "I knew it!" James thought. "I knew that Madame Marshmallow was at the bottom of this."
James recorded Madame Marshmallow doing a deal with Monsieur Dents. They planned to replace all of the pet food in Paris with cheap sweets that would rot the pets' teeth. Madame Marshmallow had agreed to split the profits from all of the extra dental work with Monsieur Dents.

James sent the recording through to Freddy and hopped back on his scooter. The next day he read in the Daily Times that Madame Marshmallow and Monsieur Dents had been captured. Another successful mission.
