Acer eager for men's eight

Acer Nethercott is living up to his name as cox of the British Men's Eight in the rowing in Beijing.

Men's eight cox Acer Nethercott

Acer means “fierce, keen and eager” in Latin, and he's certainly eager to take up the challenge of in-boat coach to the eight-man crew.

Nethercott, who was born in Newmarket but now lives in Harlow, Essex, went to school at Mark Hall Comprehensive and then Broxbourne School.

He joined Oxford University Boat Club as a student and was the Oxford women's Blue Boat cox in 2000 before coxing Isis in 2002 and then moving up to the winning Blue Boat in 2003.

His cousin, swimmer Kathryn Evans, competed for Great Britain at both the Athens and Sydney Olympic Games
