Hi and welcome to ‘How do I…’ ਮੈਂ ਰਾਜਵੀਰ ਅਤੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਨਾਲ ਸੈਮ ਹੈ।

ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਐਪੀਸੋਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂਗੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਕੋਈ  ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈਏ ਮਤਲਬ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੁਝ ਪੁੱਛੀਏ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ। ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਐਡਮ ਦੀ ਤਿੰਨ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਨਾਲ ਹੋਈ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ। ਜੇਕਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪੂਰੀ ਗੱਲ ਨਾਂਹ ਵੀ ਸਮਝ ਆਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਵੀ ਕੋਈ ਗੱਲ ਨਹੀਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਾਂਗੇ। ਹੁਣ ਲਈ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੰਨਾਂ ਸੁਣੋ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅਨਜਾਣ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਜਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਜਾਣ ਪਹਿਚਾਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਨਾਲ। ਸ਼ਬਦ ‘the nearest supermarket’ ਨੇੜਲੀ ਸੁਮਰ ਮਾਰਾਕਿਟ ਸਮਝਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਤੁਹਾਡੀ ਮਦਦ ਕਰਨਗੇ।

Oh, yes. Turn down here on the left, then…

Adam
Hello! Sorry to bother you. Do you know where the nearest supermarket is, please?

Man
Yes, I do. Go straight down here, then turn left…

Adam
Hi there. Can you tell me where the nearest supermarket is, please?

Woman 2
Yes, of course I can. It’s just down here on the right…

ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਕੀ ਲੱਗ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ? ਸੈਮ ਕੀ ਐਡਮ ਜਿੰਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ?

No, I think he was talking to strangers, people he didn’t know. So he was being very polite.

ਰਾਜਵੀਰ
ਹਾਂ, ਇਹ ਬਹੁਤ ਨਿਮਰ ‘polite’ ਹੈ। ਸੈਮ ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦੱਸੋਂਗੇ ਐਡਮ ਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਪੁੱਛਣ ਲਈ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਵਾਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ।

Well, he used ‘please’ a lot! And also ‘excuse me’ and ‘sorry to bother you’ in a polite voice or intonation.

ਹਾਂ ਉਸਨੇ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੱਲ ਖਿੱਚਣ ਲਈ ਇਨਾਂ ਵਾਕਾਂ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੀ। ਉਸਨੇ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਹੀ ਕੀਤਾ ਨਾ?

Absolutely! And then he asked for the same thing, but in three different ways.

ਚਲੋ ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਉਸਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੀਤਾ ਸੀ?

Where’s the nearest supermarket, please?

ਰਾਜਵੀਰ
ਉਸਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਸ਼ਬਦ‘Where’s…’, ਤੋਂ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ ਇਹ ‘where’ ਅਤੇ ‘is’ ਦੋ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮਿਲਾ ਕੇ ਹੋਂਦ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ। ਇਸ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਉਸਨੇ ਜਿਸ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਛਣਾ ਸੀ ਉਸਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੋੜਿਆ। 

ਤੁਸੀਂ ‘Where’s…’,  ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਜਗ੍ਹਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਉਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਛ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ।

Yeah, you can say ‘What’s the nearest supermarket?’ or ‘Which is the nearest supermarket?’

Thank you, Sam! ਹੁਣ ਐਡਮ ਦਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਭਰਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਸਿੱਧਾ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਅਸਿੱਧੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਵੀ ਪੁੱਛੇ ਜਾ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ। ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਦਾ ਪਿਹਲਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਉਹ ਹੀ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ਪਰ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਾਲਾ ਹਿੱਸਾ ਬਦਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ।

Ok, ਪਹਿਲਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ‘Do you know where…?’, ‘ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਾਣਦੇ ਹੋ ਕਿਥੇ ਹੈ…?’, ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪੁੱਛਿਆ ਗਿਆ।

And the second question started with ‘Can you tell me where…?’

ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਸੀ, ‘ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਮੈਨੂੰ ਦੱਸੋਗੇ ਕਿਥੇ ਹੈ…?’ ‘Can you tell me where…?’

ਅਤੇ ਉਸਨੇ ਇਹ ਦੋਂਨੋ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕੀਤੇ। ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੇ ਗਏ ਸ਼ਬਦਾਂ ਦਾ ਸਹੀ ਉਚਾਰਨ ਸਿੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਸੈਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣਨਾ ਕਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ‘is’ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਵਾਕ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਥੇ ਕੀਤੀ ਗਈ ਹੈ।

ਕੀ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿੱਤਾ? ਅਸਿੱਧੇ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਰਿਆ ‘is’ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਛ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ ਉਸ ਸੰਬੰਧੀ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਲਗਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। 

ਚਲੋ ਹੁਣ ਕੁਝ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਜਾਣਨਾ ਚਾਹੁੰਦੇ ਹੋ ਟਾਇਲਟ ‘the toilet’ ਕਿੱਧਰ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਮਤਲਬ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਅਣਜਾਣ ਵਿਅਕਤੀ ਨੂੰ ਪੁੱਛ ਰਹੇ ਹੋ। ਆਪਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਸ਼ਨ ‘where’ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰੋ ਅਤੇ ਹਾਂ ‘please’ ਕਹਿਣਾ ਨਾ ਭੁੱਲਣਾ। ਆਪਣਾ ਜੁਆਬ ਚੈੱਕ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਸੈਮ ਦਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਸੁਣਨਾ।

Great! ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਟਾਇਲਟ ਬਾਰੇ ਪੁੱਛੋ, ਪਰ ਇਸ ਵਾਰ ‘is’ ਨੂੰ ‘the toilet’ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਲਗਾਉਣਾ।

Good! ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਵੀ ਕਹਿ ਸਕਦੇ ਹੋ-‘Can you tell me where the toilet is, please?’ ਤਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਨਾਲ ਕੋਈ ਜਾਣਕਾਰੀ ਮੰਗਣਾ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ।
