ਅੱਜ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂਗੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਖਾਣਾ ਖਾਣ  ਕਿਸੇ ਰੈਸਟੋਰੈਂਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਾਈਏ ਤੇ ਉਥੇ ਕੋਈ ਗੜ੍ਹਬੜ ਹੋਵੇਂ ਤਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਸੀਂ ਸ਼ਕਾਇਤ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਕਰੀਏ। ਬ੍ਰਿਟਿਸ਼ ਲੋਕ ਤਾਂ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ 'polite' ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਕਾਇਤ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ ਭਾਵੇਂ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਗੱਲ ਤੋਂ ਗੁੱਸੇ 'angry' ਹੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਨਾ ਹੋਣ। ਚਲੋਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਸ਼ਕਾਇਤ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਿਵੇਂ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਵੇ।

Excuse me! I'd like to talk to the manager.

Waiter! I'd like to make a complaint.

I'm sorry, but could I have a moment?

Yes, definitely. The first person said 'Excuse me', which is very polite, and the third person said 'I'm sorry'.

'Excuse me' ਇਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ 'ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰਨਾ'। 'I'm sorry' ਇਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਵੀ ਇਹ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿ 'ਮੈਨੂੰ ਮੁਆਫ਼ ਕਰਨਾ'।

The people complaining also said ‘I’d like to’, which is a very polite way to say what you want.

'I'd like to', ਯਾਨੀ ‘ਮੈਂ ਪਸੰਦ ਕਰਾਗਾਂ’ 'I want to', ‘ਮੈਂ ਚਾਹੁੰਦਾ ਹਾਂ’ ਤੋਂ ਕੁਝ ਵੱਧ ਨਿਮਰ ਹੈ ।

ਭਲਾਂ ਲੋਕ ਕਿਸੇ ਰੈਸਟੋਰੈਂਟ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸ਼ਕਾਇਤਾਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ?

Lots of things! The food, the plates, the cutlery, the table, the bill or the service, for example.

ਗਾਹਕਾਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਸਮੱਸਿਆਵਾਂ ਕੀ ਹਨ?

Could I have a new knife? This one is dirty!

Ohh! ਇਸ ਗਾਹਕ ਦਾ ‘knife’ ਗੰਦਾ ਹੈ।

The customer asked a question using 'could'. Could is a polite way to make a request.

ਰਾਜਵੀਰ
ਕਿਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ 'could' ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਨਿਮਰਤਾ ਭਰਿਆ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਹੈ। ਕੁਝ ਉਦਾਹਰਣਾਂ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

Could I have a moment?

Could I speak to the manager?

Could I have a new knife? This one is dirty!

ਪੁੱਛਣ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਕਾਇਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮਝਾਇਆ। ਚਲੋ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਉਦਾਹਰਣ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ – ਸਮਝਦੇਂ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਗਾਹਕ ਨੂੰ ਦਿੱਕਤ ਕੀ ਹੈ?

Could I speak with the manager? I ordered two coffees, but the bill says I ordered three!

Oh dear! The customer had a problem with their bill! They were overcharged.

'Overcharged' ਮਤਲਬ ਕਿਸੇ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਪੈਸੇ ਵਸੂਲਣੇ। ਚਲੋ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਸ਼ਕਾਇਤ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

Could you cook my steak more? It's too pink in the middle.

ਮੈਨੂੰ ਲੱਗਦਾ ਸਾਰੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ। Waiter! I'd like to make a complaint.

I'm sorry, what seems to be the problem?

There's a hair in my soup! Could you get me another?

James
Certainly, I'm very sorry! I'll get that for you right away.

ਚਲੋ ਹੁਣ ਕੁਝ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇ।ਵੇਟਰ ਨੂੰ ਕਹੋ ਕਿ ਤੁਹਾਡੇ ਲਈ ਇੱਕ ਨਵਾਂ 'knife' ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਵੇ ਅਤੇ ਦੱਸੋ ਕੇ ਇਹ ‘dirty’ ਗੰਦਾ ਹੈ। Remember to use 'could' and say 'please'. Check with James afterwards.

Well done! ਕਈ ਵਾਰ ਜੇਕਰ ਸਮੱਸਿਆ ਵੱਡੀ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਵੇਟਰ ਜਾਂ ਮੈਨੇਜਰ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ 'compensation' ਮੁਆਵਜ਼ਾ ਵੀ ਦੇ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਨ।

'To comp' ਮਤਲਬ ਇੱਕ ਵਿਕਲਪ ਲੈਣਾ। Dessert ਮਤਲਬ ਮਠਿਆਈ।

'A voucher' ਇਸ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਤਾਂ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਪਤਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਲਈ ਕੋਈ ਵਉਚਰ ਯਾਨੂ ਕੋਈ ਕੂਪਨ ਮਿਲ ਜਾਣਾ।
