ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਐਪੀਸੋਡ ਵਿੱਚ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਾਂਗੇ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਬਾਰੇ ਅਤੇ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਤੋਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਹਾਸਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਅੰਗਰੇਜ਼ੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸ ਸਕਦੇ ਹਾਂ।ਹਰ ਵਾਰ ਦੀ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂਸ਼ੂਰੁ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ ਜੋ ਆਪਣੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਕੁਝ ਦੱਸ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। ਚਲੋ ਸਮਝਣ ਦੀ ਕੋਸ਼ਿਸ਼ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਇਹ ਕਿਸ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ। 

1. I started primary school when I was 6.
2. I left high school when I was 18 to go to university.
3. I graduated from Manchester University and I got a degree in engineering.
4. I left secondary school when I was 16 and I went to college, where I got a certificate in business.

ਹਾਂ, ਉਹ ਆਪੋ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਬਾਰੇ ਹੀ ਗੱਲ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ, ਨਹੀਂ?

Yes, they used lots of different ways to talk about education. So let’s have a closer look!

ਚਲੋ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਅਲੱਗ ਅਲੱਗ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੰਸਥਾਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਸਮਝਦੇ ਹਾਂ, ਪ੍ਰਾਇਮਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ- primary school, ਸੈਕੰਡਰੀ ਸਕੂਲ- secondary school, ਹਾਈ ਸਕੂਲ, ਕਾਲਜ-college, ਯੂਨੀਵਰਸਿਟੀ- high school.

And what verbs did they use with these places? Let’s listen again – the verbs will come before the schools. 

I started primary school when I was 6.
I left secondary school when I was 16 and I went to college.

ਠੀਕ ਤਾਂ ਅਸੀਂ ਸੁਣਿਆ, started ਜਿਸ ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨਾ, left ਮਤਲਬ ਛੱਡਣਾ ਅਤੇ went to ਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਹ ਸਭ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਦੇ ਵੱਖ ਵੱਖ ਪੜਾਵਾਂ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਵਰਤੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ।

And these verbs are all in the past simple. Shall we practise the pronunciation? Please repeat after me:

I started primary school when I was 6.

I left secondary school when I was 16…

…and I went to college.

ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿਓ ਕਿ ਅਸੀਂ went ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ‘to’ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ। ਪਰ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਸੇ ਵੀ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਸੰਸਥਾ  ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲੱਗਿਆਂ ‘the’ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।ਹਾਂ ਕੁਝ ਇੱਕ ਖਾਸ ਨਾਲ ਜ਼ਰੂਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ। ਚਲੋ ਸਮਝਣ ਲਈ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ ਕਿ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ। ਧਿਆਨ ਰੱਖਣਾ ਕਿ ਇਹਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਕਿਹੜਾ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਦੋ ਵਾਰ ਸੁਣਿਆ? 

I graduated from Manchester University.

I got a degree in engineering.

I got a certificate in business.

Did you hear it? The verb they used twice was ‘got’.

ਹਾਂ, ਉਹਨੇ ‘got a degree in engineering’ ਇੰਜੀਨੀਅਰਿੰਗ ਦੀ ਡਿਗਰੀ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ ਹੈ ਅਤੇ got a certificate in business ਯਾਨੀ ਬਿਜ਼ਨੈੱਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਦੀ ਸਰਟੀਫ਼ਿਕੇਟ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਹੈ। ਧਿਆਨ ਦਿਓ ਕਿ ‘a degree’ ਅਤੇ ‘a certificate’ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਵਿਸ਼ੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ‘in’ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰਨੀ ਪਵੇਗੀ। ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਅਸੀਂ ਕਿਰਿਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਸੁਣਿਆ ‘graduated’ ਜਿਸਦਾ ਅਰਥ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਗਰੈਜ਼ੂਏਸ਼ਨ ਤੱਕ ਦੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਖ਼ਤਮ ਹੋ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ।

And after ‘graduated’, it’s important to remember to use ‘from’ before the name of the place. Let’s practise saying these altogether. Repeat after me: 

I got a degree in engineering.

I got a certificate in business.

I graduated from Manchester University.

Great! ਤੇ ਹਾਂ ਇੱਕ ਹੋਰ ਗੱਲ। ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਿੱਖਿਆ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਨਾਲ ਉਮਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਕਿਸ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੱਸਿਆ?

ਚਲੋ ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਸਮਝਣ ਲਈ ਵੀ ਦੁਬਾਰਾ ਸੁਣਦੇ ਹਾਂ।

ਉਹਨਾਂ ਸਾਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ‘when I was’ ਮਤਲਬ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਉਮਰ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਕਿ ਜਦੋਂ ਉਹ...ਸਾਲ ਦੇ ਸਨ।

OK, ਤਾਂ ਹੁਣ ਤੁਹਾਨੂੰ ਆਪਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹਾਈ ਬਾਰੇ ਦੱਸਣਾ ਆ ਗਿਆ ਹੈ, ਚਲੋ ਕੁਝ ਅਭਿਆਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਾਂ।
ਤੁਸੀਂ ਆਪਣਾ ‘primary school’ ਕਿਸ ਉਮਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤਾ। ਤੁਸੀਂ ਇਹ ਦੱਸਣ ਲਈ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਹੜੇ ਕਿਰਿਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰੋਗੇ ‘started’ ਦੀ ਜਾਂ ਫ਼ਿਰ ‘left’ ਦੀ।

ਹੁਣ ਤੁਸੀਂ ਕਿਸ ਕਿਰਿਆਤਮਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਕਰੋਗੇ? ਸੁਣਨ ਤੋਂ ਬਾਅਦ ਸੈਮ ਨੂੰ ਸੁਣਨਾ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਕਿਹਾ ਚੈੱਕ ਕਰ ਲੈਣਾ।
